Introduction

The Multi-Line Journal option allows a user to post one amount from the bank statement line across multiple accounts. This is an easy way to split one amount so it does post from the bank to multiple accounts.

Creating a Multi-Line Journal posting

To create a Multi-LIne Journal posting import a statement or open an existing statement in the edit modus.

Open the Multi-Line Journal pop-up

On the bank statement line, there is a column labeled “Alt Match Type”. If you select this field on the bank statement you will get a dropdown with several options. One of the presented options is “Multi-Line Journal”.

Enter journal data

In the pop-up that opens you have the option to split the amount from the statement into multiple journal postings. On each line individually you can set the following information

Amount (the amount that should be posted)
Account (the account the amount should be posted to)
Department (select if needed)
Class (select if needed)
Location (select if needed)
Tax Code (select if needed)

When splitting the amount into several journal postings it's important that the total value from the added lines is equal to the statement line amount. In this demo scenario, the total value from the statement line is 788.29 euros and this is visible in the popup in the column labeled “Amount On Bank Statement Transaction”. The pop-up automatically sums up the lines you have created and shows the created total amount in the field labeled “Total Amount Split”. The pop-up will not allow the user to proceed if the split amount is not equal to the statement line amount. When all needed lines are created you can proceed by pressing the blue button labeled “Submit”.

Outcome

After saving the statement the column “Payment Number” will hold 2 or more journal postings as entered in the previous step. Each journal will be posting as entered in the pop-up.
