Top 7 causes for incorrect bank balance

Below are the top-7 causes for an incorrect bank balance, and how to resolve them.

  1. Incorrect start balance:
    • The bank balance at the start of the statement might be incorrect.
    • Check the bank balance in NetSuite in the Account Register (Lists > Accounting > Accounts, click on the bank account).
  2. Some lines on the statement aren't processed:
    • All lines on the statement must be processed to continue.
    • In the header of the Bank Statement we will indicate the remaining lines
    • Please review supported scenarios
  3. Payments or other bank transactions created outside of statement:
    • When users create bank transactions outside the statement, it may lead to an incorrect bank balance.
    • Create a reconciliation report and exception report to investigate the anomalies.
    • It is possible to attach customer payments and vendor payments that were created outside of the statement to the statement line, by clicking 'Show Closed Transactions' on the Select Transactions popup.
    • See Process Bank Statement for more information.
  4. Changes to already processed transactions:
  5. Duplicate importing of bank statement:
    • When a duplicate statement is imported, a warning sign shows that there are other statements found within the same date range.
    • Delete one of the statements.
  6. Copy a reconciled journal:
    • A reconciled journal will contain a Fast Four Bank reconciliation link
    • When you copy a reconciled journal, you will also copy this link
    • Our solution will then by default exclude this journal from possible transactions to be reconciled
  7. Transaction types that are not available in the Account Register:
    • When Bank Balance NetSuite field is compared to Account Register, there are certain types of transaction considered in saved search (used for calculation of NetSuite balance in the Bank statement) but not in the Account Register, such as Inventory Worksheet
